[unpaid/sample] I was never much of a ‘wellness’ tea believer – I’d always rather have a cup of Tetley or similar and I find Earl Gray positively offensive because it tastes like furniture polish to me. I hate fruit teas – they just taste like horrible water and they’re not even tea anyway so the chances of me liking the adaptogen teas from Tea & Tonic were slim. But here we are now and I love them. High Spirits White Mint was my favourite which is extraordinary for someone who doesn’t like things that taste of mint but again, here we are. I’ve just tried The Tonic Ginger Turmeric and it’s now my new favourite. Just very easy to drink and, being caffeine free, it doesn’t leave me absolutely bouncing off the walls.
Adaptogens are roots, herbs and general plant substances that can help to combat and balance stress by tapping into your central nervous system. I think it sort of depends how much of a believer you are in alternative health, but if you are, adaptogens are indicated in improving sleep, improving digestive function and fighting tiredness and fatigue. I don’t think I can say definitively one way or the other if I feel a long term benefit because I’m not consistently drinking them but I do feel a genuine sense of looking after myself when I pour myself a cup. White Mint is the tea that I’ve had the most and often serve to friends I feel need a bit of TLC – it always seems to do the trick. They’re palatable teas which really helps (although I do add a tiny bit of sugar and no, it’s not organic) and this is a very thoughtful brand who put the very most into their blends in order to make them as beneficial as possible.
If you’re finding your stress levels climbing (mine are finally subsiding), The Tonic, with ashwagandha, ginger, turmeric and lemon myrtle, is a very pleasant way to just give yourself five minutes as it’s formulated to de-stress. It’s also a good one for after a work out and for that you can read a hell of a day traipsing the high street looking for gifts for people that are impossible to buy for. It’s got a little bit of a zing so it’s going to be the one to go for if you feel a bit coldy or run down. White Mint is the tea version of a kick up the butt with white peony, peppermint, eucalyptus and gotu kola and is very peppy-uppy if you’re flagging.
I’ll gladly pick out a Tea & Tonic tea and have a sense of looking forward to it and that it’s something of a treat in a way I don’t feel if I’m served a fruity infusion – blackcurrant ‘tea’ is the worst – it’s like the saddest Ribena you ever tasted and it’s just urgh. No thank you! But yes please to the feel good factor from White Mint and The Tonic which taste nice and make me legitimately feel I can take some time back for myself to sip in peace and quiet.
