Smoke & Matches Peach Fizz Candle Review

[purchase] My son has just come downstairs (from bed!) and immediately said, ‘what’s that amazing smell – it’s so peachy?’ and I can’t think of a better start to the review of the Smoke & Matches Peach Fizz Candle. Smoke & Matches is an independent small business knocking out better scented and more generous candles than just about any premium brand you’d like to mention.

I’m very much over pine and cinnamon – I’m itching to get the tree down and put away (I’m afraid I’ve already got rid of the cards and breathed a sigh of relief that my sitting room looks back to normal) and erase all signs of the clutter of Christmas. I’m such a fan of peach scents – sweet, fruity and optimistic – and while I might usually save such fragrance for summer, I’m so glad I have this lit and cheering up the household.

The personalised card is a lovely touch that you won’t see from bigger brands, and as yet, there’s no endless requests via email to ‘rate’ the delivery, the packaging, the product or the ease of ordering. This feels like an in-box win! Smoke & Matches is run by Khila (full disclaimer, a blogging friend from way back) and Karen and because it’s a small business, the fragrance runs are small. So, while Peach Fizz is not currently available (although I’m sure it will be again) there are other options such as Good Morning, Sweet Dreams, Coffee Shop and Beach House. Cashmere is sold out in the candle (and gosh, I want to try this one) but is available in a diffuser.

Much as I love a candle, they’re so expensive – it’s quite hard to justify £70 to literally burn away although I do see occasions as exceptions. I’ve used last year’s Diptyque candles again this year and that was ideal for the few days that needed a specifically piney scent but I would be reluctant to repurchase because small business candles are coming up so strong. Maybe 2025 is the year to take more notice of the hand poured, short run, not-ripping-you-off candles that don’t bust your budget at the strike of a match. This is very much the trajectory of how small fragrance houses became a real threat to the placeholders of the perfume industry – all I’m saying is watch this space! Smoke & Matches candles are £18 each HERE.

Oh my – that sounds gorgeous and so great to read about small local uk brands and particularly candles. There’s a wonderful candle shop in Denbigh here in North Wales called Bridge Park candles ( about to be rebranded as Bloom and Burn). Carol makes all her candles ( soy based wax), and the scents are fantastic. The rose candle is so summery, there’s a fantastic fig and one called Bohemian Nights which is so snuggly and lots more, and for a fraction of the price of the big brands, and the throw is amazing!
Anyway, soz for the long message, but the upshot is ‘bravo to your friend’ and thanks for drawing attention to small, local makers – it’s something that means a lot. HNY!
