Reedling – The Microneedling in a Bottle skin care trend that’s coming for you in 2025!

[affiliate] First up, what is ‘reedling’? It’s a popular Korean beauty trend that uses micro-sized particles that act like micro-needles when worked into the complexion via a serum. They’re made from natural sea sponge and they’re called spicules. These spicules (made up of silica and calcium) create minute punctures in your skin similar to a microneedling device, opening up tiny channels in the complexion to enable greater product absorption. The spicules also boost the skin’s repair process.

Reedle shots, containing spicules, help remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin – the spicules, which you will definitely feel as you apply in the form of a prickly tingling, will shed from your skin naturally in the same way that your dead skin cells do. Skin is built to be a barrier so creating a method of deeper or extra absorption is something of a holy grail for the beauty industry and a top reason why all the brands are eyeing this trend. Although it’s already very popular in Korea, it’s a relatively new trend and technology for the beauty industry world-wide and something that every skin brand is looking at right now, despite the fact that clinicals are very limited so far.

I tried 100 Vita-Light Reedle Shot Cica Reedle, with hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C, which is a mild form of microneedling in a bottle at level 100 – the levels go up to 900, to give you an idea. Oh my gosh – you will feel this getting to work on your skin. I was so surprised that the prickling was as intense as it was because in truth, I was expecting nothing at all (because marketing!) but I really did feel it. It’s not exactly pleasant but neither is it anywhere near unbearable – it’s like the tingling feeling that you can get if you’re using an acid but times it by 100.

All of the marketing says that it allows your actives (any included in the Reedling Shot or in your regular skin care routine) to penetrate more deeply into the skin, but as we all know, there’s a certain absorption depth that becomes classed as medical and you can only get that on prescription, so whether it’s driving more deeply is up for debate but spicules certainly seem to help your skin be more open to absorbing actives ingredients. Another point to bear in mind is that any embedding of foreign objects into the skin can be problematic – 99 times out of 100, it will seemingly cause no issue because the human body is excellent at ridding itself of foreign bodies, but you do have to take that possible risk into account.

Is it a fad? It’s too early to say, as are any visible results, but one thing is for sure, Reedles and Spicules are going to be in your sight-line next year. I can tell you that the product I have tried sells out regularly in Korea. You can buy the product that I’ve tried – and will continue with for a while as a first step in my night routine (which consists of one other product!) – via YesStyle HERE where it’s £29.86. I use YesStyle a lot so can vouch for it but it can often take a while for your product to be dispatched.  There are other options from the same brand but the one you see in the pictures and the link is the one I’ve tried so for now, it’s only one I’m happy to suggest for you.
