On the international style circuit, Paul Yacomine is a well known name as an acclaimed session hairstylist – his client list reads like the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In our over-saturated product market, Paul has carved out a niche with natural oils ranging from bond repair to sun protection. We had a little chat on Instagram after which he sent me his Volume Oil and readers, I was not prepared!
I had vastly underestimated the power of this treatment oil and wasn’t ready for the level of volume I got. I mean, it’s called Bouffant so I should have known. So, first of all, honestly, I’m going to admit to being a little bit twitchy about being sent a volumizer – it’s something of a trope that the older you get, the more volume you need and it’s just not necessarily true. I don’t have as much hair as I used to (thank you Covid) but it’s by no means thin and that’s true for a significant number of older women. Plus, not everyone wants volume – we can be happy with healthy, swishy hair that doesn’t look like The Red Arrows did a low to the ground fly-by. However, getting over myself, it is a fact that volumizing is a very popular category for all women who feel bigger is better and if you have thinner-than-you’d-like tresses, fight to the front of the queue for Volume Oil.
The serum oil increases hair diameter and density – I can attest to this. I think maybe I used a bit too much and then panicked during the styling – you only need four to five drops – so the result is more Yeti than Yacomine (but look how full my fringe looks!). However, I’ve seen the light – I can see, despite my clumsy efforts, that this product will bring you an exceptional volume and the appearance of density. I think what I might suggest is that next time you have your hair done, take the oil to your stylist and have them use it on your hair to give you a blueprint of how to style while wearing it. My hair definitely felt different – more textured – and I was less sure how to manage it so I just did what I always do – hence Yeti. In hindsight, I should have been more careful – I should have separated and smoothed my hair more while drying and put a bit of wave into it too. But, here we are, we live and we learn. I was surprised to discover that the serum oil is £28 HERE – I thought it would be more. There is a shampoo too (top picture), but in honesty, I don’t think you’ll need it.
