[unpaid/sample] Several surprises for me with this brand – mainly that it’s founded by Tajinder Banwait who I have known since 2012. In fact, her other brand, Urban Apothecary first featured on this site in 2012, looking very different to how it does now. From that (initially) quirky little candle brand, Urban Apothecary has flourished into a fully fledged fragrance brand and Tajinder has been awarded an MBE for her services to Business and The Beauty Industry. So, with this already full plate, she’s found time to launch Palette – a plant based nail polish brand.
The next surprise is that the bottles of paint are £8 each. For comparison, Mavala is £6.40 for 5ml – Palette colours are 11ml. It’s not new for nail polish to be made from alternative ingredients such as wood pulp, potato and even wheat but it is only just starting to become more mainstream. Certain aspects of nail polish cannot be from natural or alternative sources otherwise it would just dissolve off your nails but we’ve come a long way since what was effectively car paint.
Of course, you’ll also find base coats, top coats – pearl, matte or holographic – and nail oil. There’s a decent range of colours – I love the Tropical collection – but not so many that you won’t know where to start (looking at you, Nails Inc). For some, the bobble handle might be tricky to hold – I found it okay (and the brush delivered the paint so smoothly and evenly) but I’m very used to doing my own nails. I like the look of them – again, a bit quirky which is where Tajinder’s natural launching platform seems to be – and not her fault I want to stick eyes on those perfect white heads :-).
