The main draw of the Orla Kiely Rosie Candle Set (£26) is the print – it’s so fresh and happy looking. I find Orla candles to be light on scent – which is fine; power blasters aren’t for everyone. The Rosie scent, as you’d imagine, is floral and a lovely, spring-like floral at that – I feel like there’s some hyacinth in there although it isn’t listed. Although there is some coriander and mandarin in the mix, as well as black pepper and nutmeg, it’s a challenge to find it! I think they’ve tried to make it sound more sophisticated than it actually is, but it’s perfectly sweet and pretty without the frills.
I can’t not mention that it’s a little bit disappointing that the pattern on the candle (same as the striking outer box) is just on the front, in the form of a stick-on label. I think I expected better than that for £26. Nonetheless, it’s ticking all the boxes as a lifestyle product in terms of style; it just hasn’t been given the stylish finish it deserves. The pattern is Big Spot Shadow Flower print.
You can find the set – in case you need a last minute Mother’s Day idea – at John Lewis, although it isn’t on-line for some reason. The Earl Grey full size candle is, though, HERE, and it’s a beautiful smoky, sweet tea scent with the pattern actually on the glass.. not a sticker. More elegant by a long way, I think.
