[unpaid/sample] Stick on nails are sooooo not my thing – it’s incompetence rather than aesthetic that prevents me from being a regular user. But, these are so KK that I had to give them a go at least. I think false nails are something that you need to practice regularly doing – I can paint my nails beautifully because I’ve done them a thousand times but I was a complete butterfingers at applying these.
I won’t take you through the trials and tribulations of dropping nails, not adding enough glue and so on, but if you’ve never done these before, I’d advise getting a cheap and cheerful practice set to get acquainted. OPI makes it easy to choose which nail goes on which finger (although everyone’s nail shapes will be different and there are plenty of size options) by helpfully providing a kind of paper guide behind the nails you see in the front of the box. Open this clear plastic box very carefully because if you don’t, all the nails will fall out and you won’t be able to follow the guide with just a pile of nails at your, er, fingertips. I know this because I did this.
You need to prep your nails with the wipe and file down the ends (I didn’t and I don’t know why they suggest you do it because these nails are beyond human long) before adding the glue. It’s a bit of a guess as to how much glue to use but once you’ve added the glue, you press the false nail to your natural nail for a few moments to let it ‘set’. You need to do this (obviously) ten times and I started to wonder how long it takes for actual gel nails…
The result is pretty effective – I don’t hate these sparkly French tips! They’re impractical for me (how would I type?) but I can see for a very glam night, just how elegant they’d make your hands feel. I imagined holding my wine glass differently and then wondering if they’d poke into my palms holding cutlery… I think instant nails (although they’re really not that instant) are like false lashes – practice, practice, practice and then you’re flying. I don’t like them enough to keep trying – once is plenty! At £17.99 a pack, with a 14 day wear time (impossible, I think) I feel you need to be pretty competent at this in the first place to set out for a perfect ten. You can find them HERE.
