NYX Duck Plump Plumping Gloss Review

[purchase/affiliate] I noticed the new NYX Duck Plump Plumping Gloss in my local Boots and thought, yay, that looks fun! I picked up the shade Spicy Cherry which is lovely – a nice, pinky red that looks sheer and shiny on the lips. What I really wasn’t prepared for was the heat they’ve infused into this formula in order to make your lips swell up.

To say, as they do, that this gloss is infused with ginger is an absolute understatement and the assertion that it’s high pigment is an over claim. What are they thinking over in NYX marketing? You may as well rub some neat ginger root on your lips – actually, it wasn’t so much my lips that were stinging but my tongue. In fact, I would say my lips were tingling but not in a particularly pleasant way – just on the edge of hurting and they started to feel like they were swelling even though I couldn’t really see much different. If I’d had an allergic reaction to some food or something and got this feeling, I’d be pretty sorry for myself and be looking out the antihistamines. When I checked the ingredient list, it’s not only ginger but capsicum as well.

Haha – I think you can see in my eyes the burn is just starting from this still I took from my IG reel on the gloss. A little bit had just hit the tip of my tongue and oh my goodness! It was fiery and still sensitive an hour later. Surely we don’t need plump lips this badly?

I can’t see how, in anyone’s book, this could be described as high pigment. The colour reminds me of Glossier Red which is just much more pleasant all round. If you remember Duwop Lip Venom, which at the height of its fame in the 2000s we all thought was super spicy, Duck Plump is so next level and the one beyond that in comparison. Anyway, if you feel like you need to feel the heat, it’s HERE for £10.50, but I’m really suggesting hard that you don’t kiss anyone or do anything else at all that might involve lip to skin contact until the fire has died down ;-0.
