[purchase] I picked up this little Wild Rhubarb candle in my local M&S the other day – it’s a small one and at only £3 didn’t feel like much of a risk. I could definitely smell the rhubarb notes in store but I wanted to see if that translated to any actual throw. It’s not unknown for candles to smell quite strong before you light them but then they give almost nothing at all in the burn.
I put it to the test as soon as I got home and very quickly it started to give off a definite rhubarb scent – unmistakeable really. It’s quite a fresh scent that’s almost the real deal but for a very slight back draft of something synthetic. There’s a dash of apple in there too which I think counters the rhubarb really quite well. Having just said recently that I think people have grown a bit weary of scented candles – and in particular the fact that they cost £45 as standard – this is an example of being able to still enjoy what’s otherwise an absolute luxury. The large size is only £6 so if you are reluctant to give up your fragrance burns, this collection might allow for it. Other scents I’d like to try in this range are White Jasmine and Soft Lemon. So, next time you’re passing an M&S it’s worth seeking out.
