More Notes From Asia

Okay so now Tamara is in Penang and she’s finding a definite trend.. for Sheep Placenta. I’ve been doing a bit of internets checking and even Victoria Beckham has been placenta’d with a gold flake and placenta facial.. if we can believe the reports.

Supposedly, sheep placenta is made of protein and hormones (estrogen and progesterone) and claims on its efficacy for skin are kind of mixed. Some sites say it triggers the activation of dormant cells and significantly elevate the body’s collagen and elastin production (in supplement form); others say creams containing placenta can reduce wrinkles, freckles and blemishes as well as regulating oil.

The bottom line here is that there are many, many things you can do to pretty up before you throw your face into an animal’s afterbirth. I feel weird about placentas being used for beauty; it’s the bit of the body that sustains new and growing life in both animals and humans and it just feels kind of wrong to me. Let me know what you think!

Thanks again Tamara, and if readers are interested in Tamara’s work, her site is HERE

  4. Nope sorry, just makes me feel a little quesy just thinking about it. The things people do for beauty….. x

  5. Is that why Victoria Beckham never smiles? 🙂

  6. MJ

You have no idea. Now many Asian old ladies are looking for Syn-ake(snake venom) cream. Sounds like they can do anything for beauty.

  7. What worried me is how their getting the placenta. Are they forcing sheep to give birth too much? Aren’t new animal mums supposed to eat the placenta to give her vitamins for milk. Also yeah its just gross.
