Megababe Deodorant Review

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I’ve resisted reviewing these products because I really don’t like the name – Megababe is just so not where I am with my life :-)). The brand certainly isn’t built for mid-lifers like me but a set arrived anyway so here we are.

Founded in 2017 by Katie Sturino, it’s really much better than it sounds, offering a problem-solution brand with product ranging from thigh chafe and boob sweat.

As is always the issue with problem-solution brands, you often need to create a problem in order to offer a solution and I’d cite Happy Pits Detoxifying Underarm Mask as one. I have never, in my entire life, thought the one thing I must do over the weekend is detoxify my armpits.

I have had great joy from the fact that the detox mask looks like a very sinister Colin The Caterpillar cake. It’s a kaolin fueled deep cleanse that helps pits ‘be smoother and brighter’ and I’ve tried hard to think of occasions when my armpits are so on display that they need this treatment. Each to their own, of course. However, Rosy Pits Deodorant is delightful – if you’re looking for something more natural to help with the heat of the day the formula uses a water-based enzymatic formula to breakdown odour (more mainstream deos tend to use baking soda or aluminium although you’d have to prise my Mitchum roll on from my cold, dead hands). It feels like any other deodorant under the arms but the rosy scent is charming. There are various sizes, starting at £8 HERE. The Thigh Rescue Anti-Friction stick is a best-seller and very handy if you have this issue and seems like good value at £12 HERE. Bust Dust, for under-boob sweat which is a very real problem for those with bigger boobs is sold out at Cult Beauty, although Beauty Bay has it for £14 HERE.

Totally with you concerning the Mitchum roll on, nothing better!
Had a bit of a panic in 2022 when it disappeared off the shelves for a while.

I always have a supply so I can’t say I noticed that terrible situation!

The founder of Megababe is a glamorous plus sized woman and I think the name is a fun tongue in cheek reference to her dress size. Several of the products especially address issues for her demographic including the underarm discolouration product, although this can be an issue for other groups also. I’m not plus sized but I do find the thigh rescue stick helpful when it’s really hot.

Yes, of course I’ve done some background on it – I think she is amazing but my point is that it’s Dove all over again giving us problems that aren’t actually problems. Virtually nobody has ‘perfect’ armpits because they an imperfect design for a start and underarm discolouration is natural – they don’t see the sun, for a start and there is constant minor friction (not to mention major friction in waxing and shaving) in that area so how can they ever be ‘flawless’ and that’s before we start on the job they have to do. It’s setting an unattainable standard and the healthier thing to do would be accept that it’s okay for that area to have imperfections.

Fair point Jane! I suppose it depends on the individual. The extent of the discolouration and how much it bothers them, I’ve not had that problem (although let’s not get on the subject of skin tags!) so I don’t feel I can fairly judge. The Megababe brand doesn’t seem to have an agenda to push ‘perfection’ though, kind of the opposite so maybe the underarm thing is genuinely a concern for some who’d be glad of a solution? I really don’t know.

I don’t either Sue :-)))) All I know is that I’ve never felt the need for an underarm detox!

I believe an underarm “detox” is recommended when one switches from antiperspirants or standard deodorants to more natural formulas which don’t include aluminum or certain other ingredients that plug sweat glands. In what I have read, the natural deos can take longer to be effective until the sweat glands are unplugged (sounds nasty, doesn’t it!). So while it isn’t implicitly stated, I think this does have a more practical purpose, although it does solve a problem created by switching away from traditional antiperspirant or deos!
