Maybelline Colossal Curl Bounce Mascara Review

[purchase/affiliate] I know it’s a bank holiday today but I am fully ready to be at my desk – my energy is finally back! So, fun as it has been to have friends and family time and crazy long lie-ins, I’m ignoring them all and focusing on mascara in the quiet of my office (dining room!). The newest mascara causing a stir is Maybelline Colossal Curl Bounce – best for those with straight lashes or long lashes that don’t need extra length.

I’ve got a couple of observation – firstly, white is an impossible colour for a mascara tube when the contents are jet, jet black. I’ve already managed to get mascara smudges all over it and secondly, the tube doesn’t stand up. This matters to be because it makes it difficult for me to photograph but I think whether it matters to you will depend upon how you like to store your mascara. I tend to keep mine upright and for that reason I like mascara to have a flat bottom, not a round bottom!

The brush has a nice eye-shape curve to it and the bristles are short enough (although not necessarily skinny enough) that you can get an under-stroke to the roots of the lashes and that’s really key to the main sell of Maybelline Colossal Curl Bounce Mascara. It’s designed to have a bit more hold that other mascaras so if you struggle for curl it will ‘set’ your lashes more than a regular one. Poker straight lashes are very unwilling to be pointed in any other direction but straight out but while I do have a natural curve to my lashes, I could clearly see that they had a more open look than usual and wider looking eyes is not wrong on anyone! What I mostly like about it is that it’s super-black – you get a gorgeously sultry lash fringe with fuller looking lashes but without greatly increasing the length. I don’t feel I need massive lash mascaras – especially for day time – which I feel are more prone to flaking so this ticks the boxes for me (other than I would prefer a skinnier brush).

I used it yesterday all day and didn’t find it flaked or smudged particularly. It wasn’t as pristine as first application, which I wouldn’t expect anyway after 8 hours work, but there was a decent amount left on the lashes to remove. It’s £10.99 HERE (if you have a Savers near you, it’s just under £8 there), non-affiliate HERE.

Thanks Anna – if you do decide to try it please could you feed back on how it fared on your straight lashes on this thread – it’s always useful to have other experiences. x

I can’t use anything but tubing mascaras (and I’ve quit trying!) but Maybelline continually surprises with their pretty packaging and I always wish I could get them.

And the name reminds me very much of the 1980 song “Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll.” I love it!
