Maybelline Colossal Bubble Mascara Review

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] It’s funny how product types all turn up at once – I have at least one other mascara waiting for review and I know I’ve brought you news of the RUM Tubing Mascara only last week. However, Maybelline Colossal Bubble Mascara is at high street prices and it’s probably one of the most intensely black mascaras I’ve ever used.

As you can see, it’s my favourite type of brush – tiny rubbery spikes rather than bristles that gives you a much better comb through. It’s got a slight twist on the spike alignment but I’m not sure that does anything over and above what a regular spike brush would do – it’s just a fancy element. So, application is easy, and unlike many brand new mascaras, the brush didn’t come out over loaded which means that Maybelline has created a seal at the rim of the opening that only allows for the perfect amount of product to come out. This is where componentry is so important – those little details like that make all the difference.

At the back of my mind, I seem to remember that a brand (although annoyingly, I can’t remember which one – it might have been Urban Decay, who, by the way, are betting hard on colour so look out for their new launches which reflect the turning tide of vanilla face) used the fact that they’d doubled the amount of black pigment that was usually put into mascaras. It was the first time I really thought about levels of blackness – I mean, just how black can a mascara get? Is there any limit to the depth? I have so many questions, but look for the words ‘intense or extra’ on packaging to give you a hint that there is extra depth to the colour – L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes Extra Black Mascara is a good example. When I removed the product at the end of the day the cotton pad was so black! I thought I’d never get it all off but in fact it was easy to remove (I used micellar). For me there was no flaking or smudging although it’s quite a wet formula so give it a moment before you sneeze :-). Maybelline Colossal Bubble Mascara is on offer for £9.59 HERE. My other big question is why didn’t Maybelline combine the words to Colossabubble or something?

Your lashes look great–this mascara makes an impact! I also appreciate your Spinal Tap reference vis a vis “just how black can a mascara get?”

“It’s like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is none–none more black.”

      Thanks Arpita!
