Mane ‘N Tail Shampoo & Conditioner

This shampoo and conditioner is causing a little bit of a cultish stir amongst those in the know and yes, it was originally made for horses. I’ve just given the shampoo and conditioner a test run and actually really like it – the most noticeable thing on my hair is that it has made it feel and look thicker with a bit of oomph. Now, normally I am not a big hair fan, but it hasn’t gone ‘so’ big that I’m madly trying to pat it down – it’s just volumised and full of bounce. I can’t say that it’s truly, heart-stoppingly amazing (fans of this stuff are die hard and would strongly disagree) but there is definitely something about it that marks it out from other shampoos. I’d say, if your hair is fine and runs to dry, you will love it and can find it at Zuneta.com for £2.50 for a travel size.  But if you have thick hair already and don’t want a bouff, avoid.

The shampoo is big on lather and rich in moisturisers, while the conditioner is easy to rinse away. My hair feels silky and looks glossy, so the overall effect is a good one: I’m as ready as I’ll ever be for the 3.30 at Doncaster.

  1. I remember back in 1991, or maybe earlier, my friend Kathrin came back from Texas with a bottle of this stuff, so it has been around for a while.

It could be filled with lots of silicone, like cheap shampoos, and that’s why it feels so glossy.

    Hi BBB,

I’ve mentioned your blog as one of my faves on http://www.ladyofthelane.com/2011/02/astrids-beauty-bloggers-best-things.html

    Hope you like it!

    Thanks,

  3. So funny… my granny swore by this and had all my aunties using it in the late 70’s and early 80’s back in Kentucky! It’s pretty popular back home because girls say that it makes your hair grow faster! I’ve only used it a few times, but it’s the long forgotten secret of the horse country All American natural beauties from Kentucky!

Well if Elizabeth Arden can turn hoof cream into a best selling beauty product ie: 8 Hour Cream, why not horse shampoo as well?

  5. LoveInTheCity

I’d find it so strange using horse shampoo, but my hair is so fine and flat so if anything can give it ‘some mojo’ then I’m all over it!

I know many a dog owner who uses baby shampoo on their dogs, so why not horse shampoo on humans!

Wonder if it will do anything for my fine hair..?

I bought this in 2006 when I was in the States. There was a flare of publicity around it then when Sarah Jessica Parker claimed to swear by it. It’s pretty good stuff, but I never finished my giant bottles of it. (On to the next thing as usual…)

I’ve forwarded this post to my Mum who has superfine hair – getting some volume into her barnet has been a lifelong quest so maybe this will be the answer to her prayers! Thanks BBB
