Kevin Murphy Retouch Me

Kevin Murphy Retouch Me

If you’re choosing to keep your grays at bay, you’ll know the pain (in terms of money and time) of regular retouches. I don’t think there are any stats on how many women have reduced their salon touch ups because these at home root sprays are so good, but I imagine it must be many.

What’s notable about these new Kevin Murphy sprays are that there’s a black and a red – either I haven’t been looking or there really aren’t that many, certainly red/auburn touch ups about. I genuinely don’t think I’ve seen an auburn one before. They’re cruelty free (Peta approved, apparently), and designed to last one wash, although it’s really no bother to quickly retouch if needed. Weirdly, the info was sent to me with a front cover of two women who aren’t old enough to ever have had a grey – that might need a re-think!

This is the best I can get when it comes to showing you the colours – light brown, dark brown, black and auburn – they’re like any fine sprays – blurry! But, I don’t have any complaints – easy to use, covered grey strands – what else does it need to do! £23 does seem a bit top heavy but a little goes a long way – no need to blast your hair with it because the spray is very fine and disperses well to cover. It’s HERE.

I have red/mahogany hair and really struggle to find a root touch up in this shade, I wish there were a few more options available at a cheaper price

Superdrug does a shade called ‘red brown’ in their colour fix instant root cover spray that I use – less than a fiver and pretty good

Ive been a long time reader of bbb and this is by no means a rant. Ever since I was a teenager I have been self conscious and despised going to the hairdressers because of a comment about having grey hair. I have very dark brown natural hair and therefore any grey hair shows up very easily and by age 15, I had several, which was pointed out to me by the hairdresser when I went to the salon to get highlights for my 15th birthday. Now in my late 20s the fact I am very much more salt than pepper doesn’t bother me as much because I’m more comfortable in my skin, but I wish people would not make the assumption that “you are too young to have grey hairs” and comment on it. I am by no means an exception as my sister in law has a friend two years younger than me whom I remember in school having quite a lot of grey hairs. So I disagree with your point that the women in the ad are too young to have grey hair. It can and does happen to girls in their teenage years(and boys) and many parents will not let their teens dye their hair (I wasn’t allowed until I was 15) So this kind of product could also benefit a younger demographic too. One where it is not deemed socially acceptable to have grey hairs. Just my opinion.

I completely agree with you Jay to be honest. It’s just that I think this product is marketed more towards people where it is more common to have greys than not. I love grey hair in all it’s forms on any age – and I totally understand that it’s not just the older demographic that have it. It’s just far less common, and beauty brands don’t make for the few, they make for the many! The PR pointed out that it’s also good for fade from a regular colour dye (regardless of whether it’s grey – could be brown under black dye or similar) so I think there are more uses for it than covering greys. I just didn’t think that the women in the ad were necessarily reflective of the majority of users it is targeted to, not that they couldn’t have any grey. I think I’d have preferred to see someone younger and someone older which would have given the multi-use message better. Thanks for being a reader and thank you so much for commenting :-)) x
