JVN Nurture Intense Hydration Mask Review

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Jonathan Van Ness (Queer Eye) is one of the very few celebrities that I’ve countered at events that I’ve felt compelled to have my picture taken with for fear that my children would never forgive me if I didn’t. The other one was James Buckley (Jay from the Inbetweeners – who someone then mistook for my son in a cringe-worthy moment that still wakes me up at night) at one of the funniest and strangest nights of my life where we found a well-known comedian wandering around, somewhat disoriented, in the venue car park, looking for his wife. For myself, I couldn’t resist silly pair, Jedward – I KNOW – don’t judge – who made me laugh so much in their short lived reality show for not understanding that the hot water in their top floor flat was not working, not because it had to come from the ground floor (from perhaps some mysterious lake of hot water beneath the building), but because their boiler was not lit.

Anyway, back to JVN whose brand has been in a spot of turmoil since the bankruptcy of Amyris who held a majority stake in the hair brand. It was bought by Windsong Global in 2023 for $1.25 million which is genuinely not a lot of money for a full brand. Jonathan also holds an equity stake. I liked the hair products from the get-go – Complete Air Dry Cream is a dream for reducing frizz and giving light hold when your do needs some support. Over the weekend, I tried the Intense Hydration Mask because my hair needs more moisture than before I had the colour changed.

As you can see, it’s a rich cream that should be left in your hair for about ten minutes – preferably under a towel so that your head can generate some heat into it. I can tell that it’s silicone free – I love a silicone for my hair – because you don’t get that immediate post-rinse silkiness but with that aside, what you do get is hair that feels full and soft. Hemisqualane is the brand’s USP and it is a sister to the skin care ingredient, squalane. It’s used here instead of silicones to give manageability (which it does) and a mellowness to the texture (again, yes). Personally, I wouldn’t need to use this more than once every couple of weeks but if you have hair that is dry and won’t behave, you could easily use it weekly or more. At the time of writing, it’s £21.75 instead of £29 HERE.
