Jo Malone Orris & Sandalwood

It’s taken me such a long time to review the Jo Malone Orris & Sandalwood Intense fragrance – just wasn’t really in the mood for something I thought would be spicy and heavy. Yes, you guessed it – WRONG! But, it is weird. I can’t think of any other word but earthy; orris is actually the root of the Iris plant and it kind of does smell bulby a bit.. and to my nose, more woody than floral.

Which I think will be a great relief if you aren’t particularly a fan of florals. Actually, you are rather stuck if you don’t like florals in your fragrance. For my personal taste, it’s not one for me but it’s definitely worth a spritz if you’re passing a Jo Malone counter and are looking for something unusual and out of the norm. There is a creaminess to it and some powder and it mellows more into a peppery flower the longer it stays on the skin, but it’s definitely not a traditional floral fragrance in any sense.

Jo Malone Orris & Sandalwood  is £105 (I know.. how did this happen?) HERE but I think it’s one that needs to be tried out first and not a blind buy.

It’s a lot to ask of a fragrance isn’t it..

I’m intrigued by this. But £105 is very pricey. However, I was recently in a situation that is rare now that I’m in my 40s; I was with a whole group of friends in the Ladies’ loos (as you do) and most of us had our makeup bags out. Every single one of those women had a hefty bottle or two of premium fragrance in their bags. Creed, Tom Ford Private Blend and Jo Malone seemed to be the favourites. The companies can only charge those prices because we are happy to pay them, it would seem. It’s a far cry from my first bottle of perfume – Le Jardin by Max Factor!

My God, I remember Le Jardin but in the black bottle, it was my first proper perfume! I was given it one Christmas by my Grannie I think, I must’ve been about 10 (am now 38). Loved it, I do think it influenced my taste in perfumes!

    Ooh, I love sandalwood. Such a shame it’s £105.
