Illamasqua Once Collection

Once
Once

I really didn’t expect cream shadows from Illamasqua.. these are so soft and moussy to the touch they almost go liquid on the heat of your skin. This trio of Vintage Metallic Eye Shadows is part of the new Illamasqua Once Collection for Autumn, launching at the end of August. Once the colours are on your skin, they don’t move after the initial slip of application and each one has a shimmer to it. If you’re familiar with Illamasqua they fall between a liquid metal and a cream.

The shimmer isn’t showing up terribly well, but it’s more of a gilt metallic than silver or gold.. it’s actually quite a muted shimmer really. Shades are from left to right Embellish, Courtier and Bibelot. I’m not terribly keen on these – for Illamasqua, they’re just not distinctive enough – they could be by almost any brand.

It’s a different story for the polish and gloss – they’re washed with glimmer and are SO Illamasqua! Melange Nail Varnish is an antiqued teal and Exquisite Sheer Lipgloss is alive with iridescence – it’s beautiful on its own or over any other colour to fuel it up to another level.

The Illamasqua Once Collection is a bit of a mixed bag for me, I must admit. Sometimes, I think this brand has lost its way a bit; just lost a bit of its edginess that made it so exciting. Vintage Metallic Eye Shadows are £22, Sheer Lipgloss is £16.50 and Nail Varnish is £14.50.

  1. Love the look of these, the packaging is really odd for Illamasqua isn’t it!

  2. The nail varnish looks fab, but I agree with the above comment… the packaging isn’t “Illamasqua”. How unusual xxx

Why did you not expect cream eyeshadow? They had some in the range from the very start!

Yes they had the cream pigments.. but these aren’t the same..they’re moussy for a start. I don’t know why I didn’t expect it – I just didn’t!

No not the cream pigments, the cream eyeshadows very early on. They weren’t great though, a bit too wet! I think Illamasqua are going a bit more mainstream in their products, really. Not sure how I feel about it.

  4. I agree they don’t seem like Illamasqua at all – from the first image I thought those cream eyeshadows would be from Charlotte Tilbury. They look gorgeous though!

  5. Love the nail polish shade – looks so unique and interesting, agree that the eyeshadow packaging looks like Charlotte Tilbury though

I kinda like the look of them and if they have the staying power then that makes them tempting (everyone keeps saying mac paintpots stick but not on me they don’t!)

That nail polish, though… I don’t pay £14.50 for nail polish but I may have to find a way to for that one…. that’s just the most stunning thing

    Neeeeed.

  9. The packaging of those eyeshadows is incredible! Not Illamasqua at all!

  10. I love the packaging, but can see exactly why you say it’s not illamasqua and how they may have lost their edginess! They are still gorgeous colours though! x
