[unpaid/sample] I’ve had to think hard about posting this – founder of Huda Beauty, Huda Kattan, has made her political views heard and has received plenty of backlash so the last thing I want to do is offend sensibilities. However, she isn’t alone and if I sanctioned beauty brands for things one person has said, when the bigger brand picture is so much more than an individual, we could stare at blank pages for days. So, your choice to read on or not. I haven’t received any Huda products for at least a year with no idea why and then suddenly the machine has kick-started again and here we are. The newest product is Faux Filler – I already hate the name – a semi-translucent gloss, but I love the finish on these which are any-age lip brighteners and smoothers.
As you can see, they’re all living in a particular colour mode that’s kind of neutral-natural and I’m pleased to see a cool toned mauve in amongst the shades I have. I am sure there will be a shade expansion but it’s strange to find no brights in the form of oranges, reds and pinks.
In theory, my favourite is the first in the swatch, Posh, which I like the best but it doesn’t like me as much. It just doesn’t look quite how I thought. Anyway, bottom to top is: Posh, Sugar Baby, Bombshell, Glassy, Foxy and Honey.
On the left is Sugar Baby and on the right is Posh.
On the far left is Bombshell, followed by Foxy and Honey (I know Bombshell and Foxy look the same in the tube – they’re quite similar colours). My lips are quite naturally pigmented and the translucency element will depend on how pigmented yours are. I don’t particularly like the scent – a kind of sweet vanilla – but it does disappear quite quickly. Lip glosses are high maintenance – you’re going to have to reapply willingly and often to keep your lips coloured and shiny. The formula is pleasant and melty – a bit more sticky than the lipgloss/oil hybrids I’ve been testing recently but other than that there’s nothing untoward to report. The shine isn’t, in my view, ‘the glossiest, glassiest’ ever known but it’s pretty and makes lips look succulent and smooth. The glosses are £18 HERE.
