Guerlain The Floral Denim Collection Summer Jean Palette Review

[unpaid/sample] It’s been so long – and I mean so long – since I did a complete eye look but just felt compelled by the colours in the Summer Jean Palette.

So, is this not the most lovely palette you’ve seen in ever? The attention to detail with the little gold bees amongst the flowers – I’d frame it quite frankly. With Violette at the creative helm, Guerlain is exploring new horizons but always keeps the symbolic bee at the forefront. Violette collaborated with the painter Laura Gulshani who creates floral frescos to combine artistry, embroidery, make up and denim.

The Summer Jean palette features an electric blue, a vibrant matte violet shade, a glowing gold and a matte taupe. The only shade I couldn’t shoe-horn onto my lid was the taupe.

It’s hard to pick up the gold shimmer on camera but be assured it’s very much gleaming. I used the violet on the inner corners to the middle of the lid, the gold from the middle out and the blue as a liner above and below.

As you can see, I tried it with a bright lipstick but quickly took it off – way out of my comfort zone with a full face. On it’s own it would be okay I think but not with the eye. I used a Chanel foundation and MAC blush and then dusted on a little bit of the gold from the eye palette on my cheek bones. I mean, I look ready for the Oscars somewhat oddly against the background of a kettle! I think I’m going to use the violet shade often because I’ve really fallen for it.

Here are the colours close up. It’s really a long time as I say since I’ve used powder shadows but I did much better with a flat eye brush than with a shaped one. The blue shade needs to go on full power – as soon as you blend too much or go a bit shy with it, it loses that beautiful shimmer effect. Otherwise, they performed well.

There are two Rouge G lipstick case options – each one as lovely as the other. There is a new lip shade but it wasn’t sent. However, the joy of the cases is that they’ll fit any Rouge G lipstick you already have or any new colour you fancy from the selection. I just used a very light milky pink from Charlotte Tilbury after the shock of that very bright pink from Revlon. The cases are £32 and the lip refills are £32 HERE. NB: All those curly greys are new hairs making themselves apparent – I know they’re untidy but I’m very pleased to see them (if you followed my hair loss posts).

Guerlain for a few years just seemed to have given up on their eyeshadows and blushers. One palette released at Christmas, usually otherwise just their bronzing range. I remember the beautiful eyeshadow quads they did. So it is lovely to see they are actually doing something like they used to.

Yes, they’re back! Their relatively new creative director, Violette, has made some impact but I still think I can see the ‘older arm’ of Givenchy not really wanting to make any radical changes.

Wow, these colors look great on you, Jane! I like how (I think?) you used the blue as a liner. The violet gives a lovely springtime look.

And I am confident that LE’s new cleanser will remove everything at the end of the day. I have been using it as a makeup remover and am really happy with it. It actually works out to be cheaper than my regular products (Lush Ultrabland and Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser), which probably means I need to examine my skincare purchasing decisions!

I find it does remove all make up – I like the fact that it’s ‘grippy’ when you apply it. Thank you for your kind words re the palette – I love it!

Wow, love the colors on you, Jane! (And your complexion looks so fresh, soft and even!) As for lips.. I’d say that tender pink is better than brighter/darker red not because of full face of color – it’s just this violet is too tender so lighter lips go here better than dark. May be, with more of that gorgeous electric blue + taupe that red will shine? That taupe seems very brown on my screen though, just like warm yellowish brown… is it? Cases are sooooo pretty! All this denim+embroidery summer theme is gorgeous… But I’m trying to put a bit sense to my expense *here the line of 5 Lisa Eldridge and 2 Givenchy lippies started to giggle*… Desperately trying! 🙂

It’s not so brown.. it’s more beige I’d say, on the deeper side. I’m tempted by embroidered jeans – it’s lit a fashion fire here!

*blushing* I actually have one pair – oldies from Desigual… (but think they have it in new collection too) Torn jeans with big holes I don’t wear anymore, but all these kinds of extra’s still speak to me…

I hear you – if I saw the right cut I’d probably buy them – shove on an old linen shirt and trainers and I think that would be a nice look.

This is just a stunning look on you, Jane! I really love these tiny palettes that combine neutrals with a couple of vibrant shades, they end up being really versatile and fantastic for travel. And the palette case is gorgeous. I can almost feel that embroidery!

Oh it’s a beautiful palette – a keeper for sure. Thank you for your kind words!

WOW, those shades look stunning on you! 😀
I’ve been revisiting lilacs as well, I’d forgotten how flattering they are on brown eyes

I must be in the minority but I’m not a fan of that lipstick case at all, I find it so bulky and heavy – but the bee and flower design is indeed lovely.

    1. Jane Cunningham

Yes, I hear you on that – they’re almost too glamorous! I guess though it’s a special lipstick – doesn’t fall into the ‘throw away’ category – I think you’d keep that forever.

The violet is a beautiful shade, especially on your eye colour.

    1. Jane Cunningham

I love that violet shade! Thank you 🙂

  7. Siobhan

just going to add to the other comments that the violet shade is stunning with your brown eyes!! Looking fabulous Jane!
