I know this is an early look, but Guerlain Summer is too lovely not to share. It doesn’t launch til June by the way but in my head, I’ve missed out spring and I’m on a beach with my toes painted and my sunnies on.
The thing I’m most leaning towards is the lipstick in West Wood. It’s that kind of vampy raisin shade – somewhere between chocolate and burgundy – that is everything on warm and dark skin tones but a bit on the risky side if you’re super pale. You have to remember that Terracotta is all about a warm tone – natural, tanned (carefully) by the sun or overlaid by bottle so they’re not ideal for proud to be pale skin (although the brand is bringing out a bronzer for very light tones).
Alongside the polish (also named West Wood), there’s a gorgeous golden highlighter, Summer Glow. It’s very golden, veering towards a pale gold and has the signature Terracotta scent – it’s like opening a palette of sunshine.
I’m also loving the cushion version of a tint – actually to me, it’s more like a BB cream with light coverage and SPF20. I don’t know how many shades this comes in but the shade I have is Natural and it’s bang on for when my tone warms a bit.
I’m wondering why it’s orange though, when the rest of the collection is black or brown.
And of course, every year (bar one), there is a collector’s Terracotta, and here is this year’s. It’s called Route des Iles and you can see it has a nautical reference, like a ship’s compass. I’m guessing by the name that it’s maybe Island Roads or something to do with the sea and islands.. that much I can stab at! I’ve Googled, of course, but it’s too much for my limited French and not even completely clear in Translate if it’s referencing a particular place in France. Anyway, it’s a beauty – the wooden outer casing is like a smooth pebble – and an absolute joy in the hand. It has a very tactile, warm presence and of course, the immediate summer scent.
The swatch is the golden highlight powder, West Wood Lipstick and the cushion in Natural. Til June…. !
