Friday Treat : Cookie Dreams

I cannot get used to an electronic diary – I was happy with my annual Smythson’s diary that I got every year for my birthday (handily, January 1st!) and I never missed anything. With my diary now stored on my phone, birthdays spring up as a complete surprise as though no birthdays have ever gone before them, leaving me in a last-minute panic about what I can possibly send (other than the predictable Amazon book voucher) with only a couple of days to go.

Edibles have saved me more than once. From unctuous brownies to the fanciest of biscuits, nobody is unhappy with something delicious to have with their coffee for the next couple of days. Even if they don’t want all of them, sharing is caring, etc. Novelty biscuits have long been a favourite of beauty brands to send out as a gift with product – I’ve eaten more lipstick shaped cookies than is decent – and frankly, I used to find them a bit grueling with the best thing being the branding, not the actual eating. Time has moved on, recipes are better and people find them charming. I thought a quick round up of yummy things I’ve sent to friends and family might be useful for the similarly electronic diary bemused, so here we go:

Betty’s Fondant Fancies : the most delicious fondant fancies you’ll ever eat – my favourite of all cakes and if life was fair and I didn’t care about whether I could fit into my clothes, I’d eat a box a week. It used to be that you had to order in advance, but they’re so popular that now they are part of online stock and you can order for 1-2 day delivery. A box of six is £19.50 HERE.

Mode & Grace Brownies : My first taste of Mode & Grace brownies came via a PR send out and I’ve subsequently sent them out several times to friends and fam. They’re the gooiest, squidgiest brownies you’ll ever eat – so chocolately and melt in the mouth – and with the edible flower design on top, the fanciest too. Prices start at £38 for a box of their original (and the best) Chocolate Brownies HERE.

Biscuit Boutique : Art for all from this family owned business – their intricate designs honestly make you hesitate to tuck in. Speculoos with a chocolate ganache filling? Don’t mind if I do. You can order a box of 8 for £16.50 but I notice there is a code for 15% off – use SUMMER15 HERE.

Biscuiteers: You can pick from simple boxes that will fit through any letterbox from about £15 or go for broke with a big, sumptuous tin. I’ve picked out the Bridgerton collaboration to show you – a giant box of wigs, carriages, quills and fans, iced to perfection. The biscuits are lightly lemon flavoured but it’s a pricy box at £59.99 HERE.

Fortnum & Mason: These Tall Tins have saved me on many occasions – they’re huge and impressive and honestly look far more expensive than their £14.95 price tag. The violet biscuits are my favourites – perfectly buttery and ideal with a cup of tea – followed closely by pistachio and clotted cream or maybe rose. The Fortum’s labelling is the proverbial icing on the cake. There’s a ‘colossous’ collection with even huger tins and more biscuits and if, perish the thought, you have forgotten a child’s birthday, musical carousel tins. Find them HERE.

Aren’t they the best fondant fancies in the world? Never had better. x

I LOVE those Fortnum’s biscuits, especially the Merrilossus ones you can only buy at Christmas (which is now apparently October to end of Jan – no complaints from the greedy biscuit lover).

That’s probably the only one I haven’t tried – now I will HAVE to! :-))
