I don’t usually do many store call-outs but for fragrance fans, the appearance of Frederic Malle is a pretty big deal so I thought I ‘d flag up that he is in Liberty on November 20th to talk about his new collaboration. Having delved deep into the archives of Liberty, Malle has uncovered long-ago prints to ‘illustrate’ his fragrances.
Malle has synesthesia – it’s the strangest thing; true synesthesia is a mis-fire of the senses so you might be able to physically taste shapes or smell colours. It’s often not a blessing because you can’t switch it off so what is very handy in some aspects of life, like being able to bond smell with colour and create some extraordinary fragrances, as Malle has done, it’s often quite a difficult thing to live with 24/7. However, it makes sense of the 5th anniversary of the debut of Editions de Parfums and tying the fragrances to patterns and prints that many of us will never have seen before.
If you’re a true fragrance buff, there is a champagne reception from 6pm, and the chance to hear Malle speak about his creations. Tickets are limited and cost £20 (redeemable against purchase). Available on Liberty.co.uk and Tel 020 7734 1234 ext 2124.
My favourite Malle fragrance is Lipstick Rose – inspired by the scent of his mother’s lipstick and even just writing this I can smell it. Beautiful.
