Hmm – this is going to be a tricky one to explain! Erborian 0.09 Touch Au Ginseng falls somewhere between a powder and a BB cream but what makes it exceptional is that it is made with almost no water whatsoever. Hence the 0.09 in the title, which represents the miniscule amount of water in it, and even that is in the product’s fragrance rather than anything else. Somewhat remarkably, Erborian 0.09 Touch Au Ginseng also contains no oil.

I’ve bumped mine around a bit with my finger so you can see the texture, which is a little bit like dry feeling putty and very similar in that you can carve pieces out and make little shapes with it. Maybe think powdery feeling Play-Doh and you’re nearly there. I don’t recommend that you make shapes! That’s not at all what it’s for but I really needed to get hands on with it to be able to describe what it feels like accurately – there is a sponge tucked into the lid and you apply it with that.

In fact, because it’s not ‘pourable’, each compact has to be hand filled. On the skin, it feels completely weightless. You wouldn’t know it was there. Erborian 0.09 Touch Au Ginseng gives a very, very matte finish with light/medium coverage but the weightlessness also means no dryness…I’m wearing it one side of my face and it feels virtually the same as the side without. Initially, the formula was not at all flattering under my eyes where I have natural creasing, but going back to check in the mirror after ten minutes or so, it seems to have softened. But the finish is even and can’t evaporate away and it has SPF20. Being so low in water, there are hardly any preseratives, either.

I have the Universal shade on my arm, but there is a light option too. Universal is actually sitting quite nicely on my light Mediterranean tone but I don’t think would do well on any darker tone.

Despite this being a very weird texture and a compact containing only 8g of product, if you’re a beauty adventurer who likes a velvet matte finish I think you’ll love this. It’s £27 HERE.

  1. Yes, I am a beauty adventurer and I would LOVE to try this “BB powder”. Just wish they introduce more shades so that we girls with medium and tan skintones get a good shade match.
