[unpaid/sample] On first spritz of EPC Pistachio Haiku Fragrance you get alllllll of the toasted pistachio that puts the olfactory-taste connection on high alert.  I would give anything for a little pot of toasted pistachios to be next to me right now. The toastiness is predominant – it’s warm and mellow with a distinctively nutty aspect.

This isn’t entirely an ode to the pistachio – you’ll find hazelnut and sesame nestling among the fig leaf and petitgrain (there is basil in the mix too but I can’t detect it – maybe because I don’t like basil). I could liken the gourmand aspect of EPC Pistachio Haiku to a fluffy pistachio mousse – it has a certain creaminess to it and a sweetness that is tempered by the inclusion of vetiver, benzoin and cedarwood at the base.

The sweetness comes from fig which becomes more apparent the longer you wear the fragrance. After a few hours, the aroma was noticeably sweeter than when it started but the progression never loses the pistachio. Pistachio is doing the rounds on the fragrance trend wagon – Kayali, DS & Durga and Bibbi to name a few – but I like the delicacy of this version because it taps at the olfactory memory without swamping it. It’s available in 10ml for £35 (the size I have here) and is launching later this week. I think, because it’s had a lot of hype, that it will just fly out of the store so you can sign up for an alert when it drops so you don’t miss out HERE.
