EPC Layering Candle Set Review

[unpaid/sample] I’ve taken my time with the new Experimental Perfume Club candles because they’re designed to be layered and experimented with. The set of 3 75g candles features Cardamom Moss, Tonka Sesame and Cedarwood Absinthe. I’ll come clean straight away and say that candle fragrance layering is not for me – I don’t think I have a sophisticated olfactory palette or at least not enough to catch the nuances of fragrant air. That said, gosh, these are lovely candles! Whether you layer or don’t layer, these are deeply fragranced with notes that resonate and there’s something very intimate about them.

The three aromas are Cardomom Moss which is fresh and spicy – I get some milk in the mix as a smoother mainly because, I think, it reminds me of chai latte. Like a chai latte, you can cup this in your hands, unlit, and just enjoy breathing in the soothing aroma. I was wary of Tonka Sesame because I’m not particularly a gourmand fan but this is freshly baked with a nutty, mild and comforting Tonka and down notes of wood. Cedarwood Absinthe is all woods and leather but with the heaviness removed. It’s fresher than I was expecting and the one to settle with by the fire – good book in hand. .

Given that these are candles to savour rather than burn away as background ‘noise’, it’s fitting – and charming – that the inside of the holders have individual colours that happily ping the visual senses.

You can buy a full size for £65 or the set for £95. They’re not cheap but they are special – the small size fits perfectly in your hands so hold them (unlit, obvs) like you’re warming your palms with a mug of tea and draw in the scent through your nose to get more than just the obvious way to enjoy the fragrances.
