Defrei Amor Candle Review

[unpaid/sample] New brand alert! My friend Kelly flagged this brand by Danny Defreitas to me and I’m so glad she did. Danny is hard to define – session stylist, influencer, make up artist and now certified chandler – but it certainly looks like he has found his ‘home’ with candles. Since we are now entering into peak cosying up time, a heart-warming candle is the perfect companion to spend the evening with.

The scent of AMOR is likened to a cashmere hug and honestly, he is not far wrong with that. It’s a soft, gentle, sweet and creamy aroma with the fruitiness of plum and pomegranate at the surface that wraps you in a sense of contentment. The middle notes are honeysuckle, peach blossom and damask rose with an ending trail of vanilla, amber and musk. Trust me, this combination smells expensive! It reminded me of walking into the Dior store in Paris (it doesn’t smell like the classic Dior candle which is lily of the valley) in vibe if not scent – just that exquisiteness and rarified environment aroma that places of luxury often have.

Funnily enough, Danny has another candle called Lobby which is made to recreate the scent of a 5 star hotel so it seems he has captured luxury on several levels. The third candle is Vanille – a bedroom candle if ever I heard of one – with vanilla, sandalwood, amber and musk. A mention should be made of the paraffin free wax which is biodegradable, blended from rapeseed and coconut oils which release fewer pollutants into the air – coconut in particular is known for its clean, smokeless burn.

It just so happens that the Amor candle vessel is the exact colour I want to repaint my dining room so now I have something to take to the paint shop and get made up. I both the design and the tactile nature of the vessel – it feels clayish but I can’t be sure exactly of the composition. I’ve tested a lot of candles over the years – everything from Tom Ford (£110 – tsk) to Price’s cheap and cheerful and this is one of the most notable for the almost instant throw, generosity of fragrance and quality of fragrance. £42 doesn’t feel expensive for this especially as it smells far more premium than that (fairly average) amount might suggest. Anyway, you can find them HERE – happy hygge!
