[unpaid/sample/purchase/affiliate] Clinique Black Honey Almost Lipstick had a revival – was it last year or this summer? I can’t remember – beauty world merges into one very often – but over on TikTok it went viral and sold out completely. So much so that Clinique has rushed out a new version (which doesn’t look nearly as good, but can’t blame them for riding a wave) called Pink Honey. The USP is that they’re as light as lip stains with a deep berry black drop that gives your lips a slightly vampy look. The Clinique website has it that you will look like ‘you’ve just eaten a plum’ but if you end up with it all over your mouth, you’ve been doing it wrong. I’ve never eaten a plum and ended up with nicely alluring, subtly sexy lips.
The original, original, Black Honey was developed in the 70’s (I don’t remember it) and came as a pot of deep berry hued gloss. It came back in the 1989 (which I do remember) as a cross between a lipstick and balm leaving just a trace of colour on the lips. It’s a ‘your lips but better’ kind of a product. But, look at the new Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask in Wisteria – it makes me wonder if this is what the original Black Honey from the 70’s looked like.
I adore Tatcha balms anyway – this is a tiny sample pot that they sent me a couple of months ago and I didn’t blog it because it wasn’t available but it is now. I can’t tell you how lovely it is on the lips – it’s called a Lip Mask but in fact it’s just an extra nourishing balm so don’t be put off by that.
The swatches don’t look very similar (remember that Black Honey adapts to your lip colour) but they both have the same grey/berry tone behind them. However, once on, they look very similar.
This is Black Honey alone.
This is Kissu Wisteria alone.
And this is both together. They’re just so similar although texturally different. Anyway, if you do remember the original, I’d love your thoughts. You can find Tatcha Kissu in Wisteria, £27, HERE, and Clinique Black Honey, on offer for £21.60 HERE.
