CHANEL Autumn Winter 2024

[unpaid/sample] And… while we are on all things Chanel, I have a few products from their Clairvoyance collection from the Cometes Collective (at the Chanel Makeup Creation Studio) with Ammy Drammeh, Cecile Paravina and Valentina Li as the first emerging talent artists to join this group. And, it’s rather different – my press pack includes a booklet with pictures of objects from Chanel’s apartment with some stunning photography giving the items a colour wash that’s reflective of the shades in the collection. Some of them I find challenging but it’s instant love for the Amethyste Mascara.

If there’s any one tip I can give for wearing coloured mascara, it’s to use a white primer (if you have pale lashes, skip this). I used Coty Lash Revival which absolutely stinks – I cannot recommend it really but it was all I had to hand. Find a gentler one that doesn’t smell like a chemical spill.

However, the white base gives the colour a chance to really do its work and radiate a vibrant purple/lavender shade. I wear Amethyste, £38, with a brown kohl because for my tone, the contrast looks great and gives your eyes some depth.

The palette, Les 4 Ombres, £54, in Divination is reflective of the collection but it’s not one I’d naturally choose. And, I couldn’t really make it work on my eyes because the shades aren’t as pigmented as you think. However, I know that some autumnal shade lovers will be all over this and I get Tilda Swinton vibes from it – a kind of stark but stunning beauty.

The two Rouge Allure Liquid Velvets, £40, again are not for me! I did a try-on on Instagram and people absolutely loved them so I think this is a me problem not a Chanel problem!

On the right is Stupefiante and the left is Renversante. A good tip for using these velvet mattes is to blur with an eye brush once you’ve applied. It helps the colour diffuse evenly and makes the look softer.

It’s a tricky formula as you can see in the swatch but once you’ve diffused, it’s perfect – and importantly, doesn’t shift!

The nail shades I’m doing better with – one of them at least. If you can get your claws on Phenomene, please do because not only is it limited edition, it’s one of those mercurial, magical shades that changes with the light, shifting green, gold and purple. I think it’s a re-release because I swear I’ve seen it before. The brown shade is Spirituelle – I’m on the fence with this. They’re £29 each.

If you’re a collector, head straight to the Lavender or Blood Orange matte blush, Les Tarots de Chanel, embossed with tarot cards. I don’t have either of the shades in this blush but if I did it would go straight to the collector box! They’re £54 each. You can find everything HERE.

Hello there Jane. Thank you for this review – really helpful as always. You’re so knowledgeable on all things Chanel so I wanted to ask if you’d seen that they have discontinued the Hydra Nutrition Cream – I’m absolutely gutted! This has been my no. 1 go-to moisturiser for years, whenever I’ve felt dry, cold or just in need of a big skin hug. I can still see the rest of the Hydra range for sale everywhere – just not the Nutrition cream. What’s your view?

I wonder if it has just become the Hydra Beauty Micro Cream? I’ve searched about on the internet and can’t find any suggested replacement but it does seem that the Micro is for exactly what you describe. Very annoying when a favourite product is suddenly gone!
