Braun Satin Hair 7 Brush

It’s taken me ages and ages to post about this brush which I was given when I visited Geneva a few months ago. Designed to reduce static, fight frizz and add shine, it completely lives up to the brief. There is no doubt whatsoever that this brush gives hair amazing shine. It’s all thanks to ionic technology – on the back of the brush (which is battery operated) is a little ion jet that shoots out ions while you brush. I accidentally put my finger on the jet and got a sharp little shock feeling, so I know it is doing something and this isn’t just a case of wanting it to do something. As the ions are released they reduce static and any friction and totally restore the gloss. The bristles on the brush are designed not to pull and tug on the hair and cause damage.

The bad news is that it isn’t on sale in the UK – only Europe. And personally, I’d really have preferred to see this as a rechargeable product; the days of heavy duty battery use are over.

That said, it truly, truly works, so if you’re on holiday in Europe over the summer see if you can snap one up. They should equate in price to about £20.

I have a Boots hairdryer that claims to reduce static by blowing out negative ions with the hot air. It has made a difference.

After I bought the hairdryer I read in an article somewhere that the negative ions are free radicals. The article questioned whether you would want to blast your self with free radicals when most face creams acted against free radicals. I’m still using the hairdryer and I don’t think I’ve aged dramatically while I’ve been using it.

@Trimperley: a free radical is a molecule that has one unpaired (single) electron in its configuration, this electron is desperate to find a buddy and reacts with anything it can to try and pair up. A negative ion (also called anion) is not as reactive a species as a radical, all its electrons are paired up, the negative charge comes from the fact that it has more electrons than protons. So no you are not blasting yourself with free radicals! (which is just as well!!)

Wow, thanks for putting me right on that. Just goes to show how superior beauty blogs are to the beauty pages of womens magazines.

  4. As I refuse to be defeated, I have just ordered one of these brushes from amazon.de for Euro 33.00 including shipping and VAT.
It was also available from amazon.fr, but slightly more costly (they also do a smaller one at amazon.fr, but the reviews are less good).
The naming is confusing because it is called “Braun Satin Hair SB1” and the “7” in the name only appeared on the invoice.

  5. Well done Pierre! All I can say is that it does make my hair shiny, and I’ve tried it on two other people too – one blonde, one mid brown (I’m brunette) and we all got a shine. So hope it works for you too xx

  6. That sounds very interesting – I wonder if it helps detangling a bit.
Btw, United Kingdom IS part of the European continent on a geographic POV, and part of the European Union on a political POV 😉
