[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] One of the best modern beauty inventions is Blemish Dots – stickers impregnated with salicylic acid (at a minimum) that you apply over a spot to create an airless environment where healing can begin. Your spot can’t escape the salicylic acid which will penetrate oil glands and act as a chemical exfoliant on zits.
It all began – I think – with Zitstikas and a ‘fun’ story about a chap with a boil on his bum whose pharmacist recommended putting a plaster over some drawing paste and slapping that on. From there, Gen Z entered the picture with an entirely different attitude to spots – they’re happy to wear their blemish dots out and about, giving no f**ks whatsoever about what anyone else might think. This relaxation of the rules around pimples has made way for neon stars, clouds and rainbows, and cute little Mary Quant-esq flowers.
I’ve used clear blemish dots on the odd occasion when I get a spot (less so now my HRT is more suitable) and have to say that they’re really very effective. You’re not going to get an immediate cure even if you leave them on overnight but they’ll certainly take the redness out and hurry up the healing time. There’s a very clear danger that if you do decide to have some fun with them and opt for the themed variety, you will forget you’re wearing them and leave the house with a face that looks like it’s covered in stickers.
7th Heaven (made by Montagne Jeunesse) Perfectly Imperfect Blemish Dots are stocking filler fodder if ever I saw it. Themed around Monster High, Barbie or clear versions, the dots use a blend of hydrocolloid, salicylic acid and zinc to literally spot-treat. The themed spot stickers seem to be part of a bundle only for now HERE, but there are lots of other brands available and the clear ones are £4.79 HERE. Look out for Peace Out, Star Skin, Witch Don’t Stress Spot Patches (bargain at £3) and for the original Zitsticka (with 40% off at the time of writing), head HERE.
