Benefit #BoldIsBeautiful

Bold Is Beautiful
Bold Is Beautiful

I think we probably all know the seriousness of domestic violence – maybe not the detail, like one in four women will experience it, and two women die every single week in the UK as a result of it, but we’re aware that it’s there, right? This kind of woolly thing that happens to other women, but not us. I heard only yesterday morning of one of the most horrific cases of domestic violence that happened to a friend of a friend – someone just like us. Broken ribs, black eyes, the childen emulating the behaviour they’d witnessed and trying to strangle their baby sister – yes, really. So, the Benefit #BoldIsBeautiful campaign could not be more timely.

In the month of May this year, go into any Benefit store that offers services, pick a service that includes a brow wax, and Benefit will give 100% of profits to two charities; Refuge, that gives support to women experiencing domestic violence, and Look Good Feel Better, a charity that’s beloved within the beauty industry and supports women with cancer.

Not only will Benefit make that generous donation (all you 10%-ers, take note), but you’ll also get a full-sized Gimme Brow (worth £18.50) absolutely free.

Benefit has over 1500 brow bars globally, and last year waxed over three million sets of brows, so you can see the potential for Benefit #BoldIsBeautiful to make some serious in-roads in funding for both of the charities. If anything needs to convince you that those brows need attention, it’s this.

I’ll just add in some pointers from Refuge that are useful warning signs of domestic violence – at the rate of 1 in 4 mentioned above – they’re going to have significance for a percentage of readers here.

– Is the man in your life charming one minute and terrifyingly aggressive the next?

– Is he excessively jealous and possessive?

– Is he stopping you seeing family and friends?

– Is he constantly criticizing you and putting you down in public?

– Does he control your money?

– Does he put pressure on you to have sex when you don’t want to?

– Does he tell you what to wear, who to see, where to go and what to think?

– Are you starting to walk on eggshells to avoid making him angry?

If any of these Refuge pointers hit home with you, don’t ignore the warning signs. It’s absolutely the difference between life and death for some.

So, Refuge is HERE, Look Good Feel Better is HERE and bring on May for brow revamps with Benefit that will change lives as well as looks.

Wow what a brilliant campaign with money going to amazing causes. My aunt suffered domestic abuse she managed to get away but her son though the behaviour was normal and treated her in the same way. I have also dated someone who was emotionally controlling. Abuse comes in all forms and this is an amazing awareness campaign from a well known brand.

  2. What a brilliant campaign, will need to sign up early as they got so booked up last time, I don’t think there is a better reason to get your brows done!

Interesting thing about those warning signs… They’re an exact description of Christian Grey.

Yes they are. Which is part of the problem, as a lot of that kind of behaviour is still very much socially acceptable and normalised.

Very cool about Benefit, though! I don’t wax my brows, but I wonder if they’d let me buy the service and not actually get it done. Hmm.
