[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I’m not a fragrance snob and actively dislike the ‘exclusivity’ of fragrance but I’m afraid I did have low expectations of Avon’s Far Away Beyond The Moon. I know nothing whatsoever about modern Avon perfume so I was quite excited to try it. I did a ‘first impression’ video for Instagram and guessed at vanilla and jasmine which is not so far away from the actual fragrance notes.
It seems that Far Away is a series of fragrances, and Beyond The Moon alludes to the nocturnal flower, Belle de Nuit, which I thought might be jasmine, also a night bloomer. Apparently, Belle de Nuit has that same headiness and sweetness. I can definitely discern the sandalwood finish of Beyond The Moon although the opener of wild cherry was completely lost on me. Now that I know what it is, I *think* I can smell it or at any rate a general fruitiness. I will still swear that there is some vanilla in this blend. The Belle de Nuit plant is interesting – according to a gardening website, its best time for scent is between 4pm and 8pm. It’s otherwise known as Mirablis Jalapa or Four O’Clock Flower and hails from South America. Every day’s a school day!
Bearing in mind this is a £16 fragrance with an elegant bottle with a design element to it, I think it’s pretty good value. The fragrance lasted most of the day (I was liberal in application – in for a penny, in for a pound) although softened greatly as time wore on, leaving a trail that smells like holidays and balmy evenings in the garden. It doesn’t have the longevity or power of a more expensive perfume but I would say that if you just want a pleasant every day floral it will hit the spot. I had no idea that Superdrug stocks Avon HERE, but that’s where you’ll find it!
