about-face Cosmetics Review

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Did it not used to be the case that celebrities invested their cash in real estate? Now, they’re all investing it in make-up – Gwen Stefani, Rihanna, Drew Barrymore and now USA singer, Halsey, with about-face, have all gone the cosmetics route, along with many others. So far, so good with About-Face – it’s quirky, fun and very well pigmented (be warned – you need such a little bit at a time!).

First up are the Cheek Freak blushes – I seem to have got the most powerful shades for some reason but there are gentler options. You will very much need to go lightly – I nearly had an e.l.f. disaster rerun testing these – just whisper your brush over the cheek balms and you will still have plenty on your face. I like the packaging – it’s softly rounded squares that probably have taken inspiration from the interiors ‘bubble’ trend. In the line-up, left to right, are: Big O, Raunchy and Cowgirl (I’m saying nothing but eye-rolling behind the screen).

So let me take your eyes to the middle product, Fluid Eye Paint in Vintage Granada (great name!). I was so sceptical of how this would look but I loved it. You do need to work with it a little to get it even (I ignored the doe’s foot applicator and used a brush instead) and apply one layer, let it dry a bit, then another layer. It’s kind of smoky on the lid but impactful and very different to what I’d normally wear. The two matte Paint-It Lip Colours are wildly pigmented – again, I’d use a brush because so much comes out on the doe’s foot. I managed to get the red shade, Serrated Bite (pardon me??!) – all over my teeth so keep your mouth shut til it dries :-). The mauve/pink shade is called Saint Sangria. There are 24 lip shades in total.

So, bottom to top: Serrated Bite (sorry, I still can’t), Vintage Granada, Saint Sangria, Big O, Raunchy and Cowgirl. The blush balm swatches show you the ‘blurriness’ of them so choose your brush wisely to get the best product diffusion you can.

I’ve screen-grabbed from my Instagram reel but you can see how good that Vintage Granada looks! The blushes are £17 (on offer at Beauty Bay for £11.90 HERE), the Fluid Eye Paint is £21 HERE and the Lip Paints are £19 HERE although Saint Sangria is sold out.

Oh god, sex-related names for cosmetics are my pet hate. My two favourite NARS lip products are called Turned On and, even worse, Do Me Baby. So I join your eye-rolling.

I know right – I just find them so cringey and inappropriate.
