I’m very easily seduced by lip products that promise smoothing – I have never had super smooth lips and while it’s not an issue, I do like the idea of just seeing what they look like very smooth! The ingredient list for the Zelens Lip Treatment Oil is about a mile long – it’s more a question of what’s NOT in this. I’ll kick off with the 9 plant oils: argan oil, squalane, wild musk rose oil, jojoba oil, borage oil, cotton seed oil, linseed oil, red palm oil and shea butter.

The formula also contains two peptides to stimulate natural collagen, botanical extracts (bidens pilosa extract, portulaca pilosa extract, shiso leaf extract), vitamins  A and E, and hyaluronic acid, phospholipids, sphingolipids, saccharomyces cerevisiae extract and soduim chondroitin sulfate. I know. So far, I’m just telling you what’s written in front of me and only because from that unassuming little tube, I don’t think you’d have a clue the product is so ingredient packed!

I’ve been using this fairly consistently for about a week and I do find it smoothing – it goes on like a light lip oil and looks like a clear gloss. The feel is of an oil-serum, so no stickiness at all but plenty of slip and there’s a light vanilla (ish) element to the scent. There is, as you can see, antioxidant protection, which is always a good thing, as well as anti-inflammatory elements and the all important hyaluronic.

A product like Zelens Lip Treatment Oil needs time to do its thing – I can see perceptible short term benefits in terms of smoothing, which means that adding lipstick doesn’t immediately make me look like I’ve been sucking lemons. It’s not – yet – a long lasting effect, but it is there. This product has so much in it; all of them solid, reliable ingredients in terms of restoring, plumping and strengthening and based on my use so far that’s left my lips smoother looking and softer feeling, I think it’s looking pretty good for a longer term bet as well.

I’ve made the mistake of treating this like a lip balm, which it isn’t. While you won’t come to any harm by absent mindedly reapplying every five minutes, you will run out pretty quickly and at £40 a shot, that’s not ideal! You can apply as often as you need and do make sure that you put some on before bed, but it’s not essential for results to over apply. Zelens Lip Treatment Oil is £40 HERE.
