It’s been a long time since I’ve looked at Essie but the Essie Spring 2017 Ballet Nudes have certainly made me sit up and take notice. It’s a six strong colour range in muted, milky tones based around a nude palette. It feels like a while since I’ve seen this kind of colour palette done really well, but there’s something very soothing and sophisticated about the collection.

Closing Night, above, is a very pretty fusion of creamy grey and blue shimmer – it’s a smooth finish with no glitter bits but it lifts a slate grey to something more exciting.

Shades from left to right on the wheel are: At The Barre, Lace Me Up, Closing Night, Satin Slipper, Hold The Position and Perfect Posture. Hold The Position is what’s on my nails right now – a peachy, baby pink blend that went on seamlessly in two coats. What’s interesting to note is that At The Barre is very similar to Chanel spring shade, Beige, in a chestnutty-latte colour fusion.

This collection is in the gel couture formula – long in the last (hopefully) and beautifully shiny. I can see this being a strong wedding collection for next spring and summer; it’s pale but interesting and not one of the shades falls into the insipid category because they have depth and strength behind them. The Essie Spring 2017 Ballet Nudes launches on 20th January.
