I have a selection of the new NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint shades here – the Tints are launching on 1st February (SpaceNK) and then 1st March nationwide.
There is an initial line up of 12 shades and the formula has SPF30. I’ve tested the formula – it’s definitely not as matte as the name implies but hovers somewhere between velvet and dewy on my skin, at least. I find very matte bases totally unflattering, so as far as I’m concerned it’s pretty near perfect. I also found that if I use a ‘glowy’ primer underneath or moisturiser, the finish of NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint picks that up in the end result. There is definitely no chalkiness or ‘flat’ look to it, despite the fact that it’s oil free.
These swatch pictures are taken in natural light with no filters on them so you can see that the selection I have is rather on the ‘warm’ tone side of things. From the top to the bottom: Groenland, Finland, Alaska, Malaga, Seychelles, Cuzoo and St Moritz.
They’re in the same order here (top to bottom).
Despite the fact that they’re called ‘tints’, to me, these behave like a medium weight foundation – there is a lot of pigment in them, so a little will go a long way. I know from Instagram that NARS customers have a concern that the Velvet Matte formula is a replacement for the original NARS tinted moisturiser; I don’t have any information to say that is the case. At 12 shades, I doubt that would be the case, initially, at least.

The one issue I think might be a potential problem is the lid – it’s on a very lightweight and flexible hinge, and as I’ve done multiple swatches, one of them has broken already. However – bear in mind that mine are samples and it may not be finished packaging.
So that’s it. All the news I can give you for NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint, other than it will be £30.
