Ooh! I think you can see Pat McGrath’s influence behind the colour selection for the Max Factor Marilyn Monroe Lipstick Collection – these are strong and powerful shades, and better still, they are skin tone specific (including dark tones) so it’s hard to go wrong.

In the swatch, from bottom to top: Ruby Red (the original Marilyn shade) Cabernet (dark tones), Sunset Red (warm tones) and Berry (cool tones). Pat herself uses Cabernet to compliment her skin tone. The Max Factor Marilyn Monroe Lipstick Collection launches at Boots in January for £7.99 each. The pigment is good without being scary, the formula is ‘glidey’ and comfortable but I haven’t tested for longevity, and the finish is a light sheen.

With the red casing, all the glamour associated with Hollywood icon, Marilyn, I think these reds are infinitely wearable at any age and it’s great that the collection is tone inclusive. Let’s face it, winter is just slightly better with red lipstick.
