If you love a kajal liner, then the March launch of MAC Twist Kajal Liner will be right up your street. Generally, I prefer a pencil to a twist up (no idea why when the result is pretty much the same!) but MAC kohls are always butter soft and easy to use. If you use a liner like this every day, it’s important that it doesn’t drag on the skin.
The biggest complaint about kajal or kohl is that they don’t stay on the water-line – I wear black or dark brown on my water-line most days and always have to reapply. Although the last on these is good compared to many I’ve tried (currently still in love with my Clarins one), you’re unlikely to get a day’s wear from them without needing to touch up. I like the fact that New Marine (green) and Groundbreaker (brown) have a pearl to them – that’s quite unusual for a kajal. Cat’s Meow (black) is a standard black without being an ultra jet shade.
I’m not entirely sure how the MAC Modern Twist Kajal Liner differs from the current Technakohl liners – maybe that line is being replaced. MAC rolls out new launches every single month so this is one of the smaller new product releases – but if you love a kohl I’d recommend.

I want to wear more eyeliner, which is your favourite to stay on the waterline?

I veer between Clarins which I love and use the most, MAC or Bourjois. Occasionally I will tightline with Laura Mercier but not that often these days x
The thing that annoys me about MAC twist up eye liners. No Sharper!!! Most brands give a bit on the end you can sharpen, Technakohl has none
Yes, but I find that they stay pretty precise because they’re so thin to begin with. I haven’t had a MAC twist up snap on me either which I have had with other brands.
Do you wear contacts, Jane? I’m looking for a contact lens friendly eyeliner and mascara (my urban decay liner seems to prefer my lenses to my waterline!) and I thought you might be able to help x
yes on and off I do.. to be honest I am lucky in that I seem to be able to use any old mascara but look out for Blinc which is a tubing mascara (Clinique also has a tubing) which means no bits.
Jane, I too wear black liner on the upper waterline everyday and I can fully guarantee Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof. It stays on all day ( and night if you don’t get it all off!) yes it is a fine twist up rather than a pencil but it has a built in sharpener if you want to also use it as an eyeliner above the lash line and need it to be sharp. I really do think it’s much better to use a twist up rather than a pencil on the waterline having once got a tiny splinter of wood in my eye from a freshly sharpened one, yikes! Love your blog and respect your recommendations. Sue
That’s a great recommendation .. I’m a fan of the Chanel mascara that’s for sure so I’ll give this one a try. Although I feel I must have tried it before and for some reason it just hasn’t stayed on my radar.
Ooh, these look good. I love a good waterproof eyeliner. I wear eyeliner everyday on my waterline, and the brands I keep coming back to are Urban Decay, Make Up Forever, Gosh Velvet Touch (Metallic Brass is the best colour ever – I have yet to find anything similar), and Kiko’s twist up liners.
