The L’Oreal Paris ‘sculpting’ collection is full of surprises and it’s not very often I say run to the shops and buy this now! But, here.. I’m saying it. L’Oreal Paris Infallible Sculpt Foundation is the dream base, for my skin at least. I’m ignoring the sculpting aspect because I genuinely cannot see how one foundation can be any better than another to sculpt over, but in terms of texture and coverage, it’s an absolute delight.
As you can see it’s a fluid consistency, similar to the new YSL base, and that makes blending smoothly easy as anything – I use an Artis brush usually – and the coverage is medium. I used the warmer tone Medium Dark, but it’s a colour adaptive formulation so I got a good match with that. This is an £8.99 base that’s behaving like a much more expensive product.
If there is one downside it’s that, colour adaptive or not, it’s not suitable for much darker skin tones, but maybe more tones will come. I’m really, really impressed with this and it’s gone straight into the keep drawer. You can find L’Oreal Paris Infallible Sculpt Foundation HERE.

This seems like a good product!:) It looks more expensive.
What else can you tell us about this base: what is the finish? what kind of skin it is targeted to?
The finish is not quite matte, but it’s not dewy either.. and there is no information at all on what skin type it’s targeted for which suggests that it’s compatible for all. My skin is a tiny bit dry at the moment but the base didn’t feel drying.
It sounds interesting but i don’t think i would rush out to buy it.

I picked the whole sculpt range up the other day. I’m so impressed by this foundation! I think its supposed to be a base for layering contouring on top. But so far I love it 🙂 xx

Yes, which it’s why it’s less pigmented – so you can build: my point is though that it’s a great base, whether you want to sculpt over the top or not.
The shade selection would be a big issue for me, but this sounds amazing!

Based on the pictured swatches alone I’d say it looks pretty close to the Laura Mercier Candleglow, what do you think Jane?
I’d say it’s a thinner pigment mix and not as light giving, but texturally not disimilar.
Thanks for the feedback Jane. I have to say I’m puzzled as to why 2 shades only?? I thought maybe we’re meant to buy / use both, apply the Light on most of the face & use the Dark where you’d contour? But still, not everyone would suit the Light shade?
Is this actually a foundation? Because a lot of people are calling it a foundation and I am confused. It says contouring base, not foundation…
Is foundation a base? Yes. This has a slightly thinner consistency than many with the theory being that you can apply contour products over it without things starting to look heavy. However, you don’t have to contour over it! It works really well as a light weight/medium foundation.
I think it’s supposed to be a light weight base only, not a foundation as such. It has more water content than a normal foundation also so that’s why it’s more hydrating!
Yes, so that you don’t get such a heavy look if you’re using a lot of contour products over it. But, you can probably get a similar effect with BB or tinted moisturiser. x
