Apart from the five shade neutral palette, everything about Clarins Spring 2016 is a joy. There’s nothing wrong with the Natural Glow Eye Shadow Palette (£33) other than we’ve seen it in so many incarnations before. Everyone loves neutrals – it’s still a very strong trend, so I can see why it’s there, but there are other pieces from the collection I like much better. Like the blush, for example. Multi-Blush (£18.50) in Rose is an easy, quick pop of colour that wakens the face. I usually apply creme blush with a brush for better diffusion.

The new Rouge Eclat Lipsticks (£19.50) are almost balmy – they’re not huge smacks of pigment but a lighter, fresher colour hit.

This kind of shade is perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to do the big colour statement – I’d be happy wearing any of them on a sunny spring day. Colours from bottom to top are: Pink Cherry, Pink Blossom, Hot Rose and Rose Praline.

The products I like best in the spring collection are the new Ombre Iridescent (£19) – single, light hit shadows that soften and brighten the lids. They’re a kind of cream to powder formula and blend so perfectly – I am hoping at some point, Clarins brings out some darker shades. And brighter!

Each shade is shot through with silver so they’re rather cool colours – I’d love some gold shots, too to warm these shades up, but in terms of soft-focus whisps of lid hugging loveliness, I can’t fault them.

Finally, the glossies! Two new Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors (£18) in Toffee Pink Shimmer and Plum Shimmer.

These aren’t, as the names might suggest, full of sparkle or shimmer, but they are ultra-glossy with subtle hints of colour.

The Clarins Spring 2016 beauty collection launches on 10th January.
