Scarlet Lily

Shay & Blue are one of the more exciting fragrance brands around – experimental but approachable – Blood Oranges and Watermelon are amongst my favourites. Scarlet Lily is a full-on fragrance: there is nothing shy or fresh about this at all. Once it’s on your skin, you’re all in on a fragrance that is big, amber fuelled and touches on tropical with ylang ylang. The main notes, as you’d expect, come from Ariadne Lily and in the way that lily can be even in a vase, can feel overpowering at first. After a time, it does settle, and I get a slightly pepperish note from it for some reason.

If you love generous and juicy florals, you’ll love this – nobody could call it a boring fragrance. It’s not personally one for me because although I love florals, I like them slightly sweeter and less amberish but do have a spritz if you pass it when it launches in September. In fact, a September launch seems perfect for Scarlet Lily to hit the end of the summer transition between fruity-fresh and light, to something heavier and more embracing with just a trail of sunshine.

One of the strengths of this brand is their immaculate packaging – birthday ready! If you’re after summer in a bottle, I can suggest Watermelons  HERE. Prices start at £30.
