Harrods Advent Calendar

I was absolutely determined not to get caught up in advent frenzy until at least November, but the reality is that the good ones sell out so fast that unless I let you know pre-launch, they might well have gone before we’ve blinked twice. Anyway, this is one is ridiculously good – it’s extremely expensive but the contents are the best I’ve ever seen and it launches on 1st October. The price is £250, BUT it contains £595 worth of products. And, it’s the first that Harrods have done (if the price is just too toppy, the John Lewis advent is already on sale for £150 and it is pretty good with Bobbi Brown, Sarah Chapman, Benefit, Marc Jacobs, Clinique, Clarins etc) so they’re certainly coming in and slaying the competition.

So, just from looking at the line up, you can see it’s pretty good – I’ve never seen Acqua de Parma in a calendar, nor 111 Skin, nor By Terry come to that! But, looking at the line up, it too has some Bobbi, some NARS, Fresh and Charlotte Tilbury, as does John Lewis. Hmm.. I’m starting to think John Lewis might be the better option if thinking that spending anything over £100 on an advent calendar is at all reasonable!

John Lewis Advent Calendar

Retailers must be clapping their hands with glee at this new luxury gifting trend – a pre-Christmas present if you like! And quite honestly, if it’s what gets you from December to January with your sanity still in tact, they’re both bargains as treats to self and incentivisers! There are some truly lovely products in both – Harrods clearly takes it on the presentation front because it is an absolute thing of beauty while John Lewis’s merely looks functional. It’s also quite clever to bring them out this early – November and December are really tough on the wallet while the reality of the Christmas spend hasn’t quite hit in September and October.

I’ve already seen quite a lot of this year’s advents – Jo Malone (yes, gorgeous and looks like it has some candles in it this time), NYX, M&S (£35 with a £35 spend on clothing and probably worth waiting til November for), L’Occitane (gorgeous as usual), Makeup Revolution and Charlotte Tilbury to name but a few. I’ll flag them on their launch days (if I remember!) but the majority are launching towards the end of this month and early October. The John Lewis calendar is HERE.
