This is the stuff of dreams for me – the most gorgeous, dark, almost gothic collection from YSL for September although if you live near a Brown Thomas, Selfridges or Frasers of Glasgow, you’ll be able to buy from 18th August, not too far away.

The key items of the collection are the mascaras, False Lash Effect Shocking Mascaras, that have a hefty kick of metallic colour in them but underscored with the blackest black pigment available. There is also a Cherry Black with deep purple undertones but I didn’t get a sample to swatch. Obviously, it’s got an all-singing, all-dancing brush with an asymmetric shape and broad helix to grab every lash. The formula is made with two types of wax – soft, adherent wax and hard wax. They cost £22 each.

The theme of black continues with beautiful eye liners (Eyeliner Effet Faux Cils) in six shades of black – I was so impressed with these – a feather stroke with a brush is all that’s needed to deliver high pigment colour; they’re absolutely lovely and while I’m not really into cream liners that need a brush (happier with a pencil liner), if anything’s going to change my mind, it’s these. They’re £20 each. I’d also strongly recommend the brush (£18) too as it seems to give the perfect line.

Finally, the nail polishes. They’re absolutely gorgeous – I’m really smitten with these (can you tell?!). Black Bronze, Black Lapis and Black Indigo are perfect winter glam shades. They’re £15 each and limited edition.
