Skin Care: Medik8

Over the past couple of years there has been a glut of skin care products dealing with rosacea – or as they delicately put it, ‘redness’. Rosacea occurs when the blood vessels in the face expand and contract, leading to veiny looking redness. And, it’s really hard to get rid of. But it’s not all that new for beauty companies to be throwing their hat in the ring trying to get rid of it. Medik8 has been doing it for years. I’ve had another look at their website – it’s relatively recently revamped, and there are some amazing looking products lined up there, besides their formulas that deal with redness. What I found incredibly useful about the site – and I’m not sure I’ve seen it on any other beauty sites – is a check box system that ticks the age range and skin issues each individual product will treat. So, you know at a glance whether there is any chance of it being the right thing for you. I’ve got my eye on CE-Tetra, a super-stable vitamin C serum that reduces sun damage and age spots as well as brightening and improving tone. It looks a lot more convincing than many other products that profess to do the same. I also like the look of Firma Derma; a 24hr moisturisation serum.

A menu of products for acne, rosacea and skin sensitivities in general is impressive, and the line up of Retinol products is good, too. The Firewall super antioxidant cream that promises younger looking skin in 6 weeks has had a lot of press interest and some very positive testimonials. All in all there are some good looking anti-ageing goodies for those whose skin finds it hard to tolerate other brands. www.medik8.co.uk
