A very quick post on a story I picked up on from Cosmetics Business (HERE) in light of The Body Shop chats yesterday and animal testing in general. So, you can read more about it by clicking the link to CB, but in essence, a Swedish biotech company called SenzaGen has created a gene-based test carried out in vitro and it’s looking extremely accurate. This is huge, especially for brands that feel they can’t not be in China economically, but while they’re there they can, and do, have sway in the argument against the Chinese mandatory animal testing. I’m hoping that some really big brands get behind this new test, known as the GARDpotency test., and we can look forward to animal testing for lipsticks being a thing of the past.

I’m waiting for a gamer or Google to come up with an algorithm that will work it all out without the need for any testing. If you think I’m joking try listening to Desert Island Discs with Demis Hassabis http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08qy1sl The music wasn’t to my liking but his explanation of how artificial intelligence will help move medical research forwards with diseases such as Alzheimer’s was jaw dropping.
