The new Narciso Poudree Fragrance is all of the wows if you love a sweet and powdery fragrance that will take you straight back to your grandmother’s compacts. I was literally straight there watching my grandma pat on some rouge in her bathroom – it’s so ‘cosmetic-y’ that I think for many of us it’s a bottle of childhood memories. You will have to be of a certain age for this creation to tug at your olfactory memory, but it’s not imperative because I think it will still remind anyone of make-up – that sweet, rosy, vanilla scent that so many beauty products have but washed with old fashioned powder. It’s so pretty.

Visually, it’s rather stunning – the bottle is a nude milky colour that reminds me of nude polishes. Note wise, sweet musk, rose and jasmine with a drop down of wood. Before it settles in on the skin, I got a blast of vanilla which I didn’t like but it’s actually dried down to something more delicate. I suppose if you imagine pale pink rose petals dipped in loose powder and sugar, you’re kind of there.

I’m not sure I could wear this daily but it’s the only fragrance I’ve ever come across that smells like make up – in a good way – and it’s beautifully evocative, too. Definitely worth a spritz if you pass it at counter. It’s HERE on the John Lewis price match starting from £31.10.
