Like lots of beauty lovers, I’m super-fussy about tweezers. However, I can’t say that I put any thought whatsoever into what goes into the making of them. Hearing a little bit of ‘behind the brand’ info though has made me look at tweezers in a different light, and also goes a long way to explaining why some are so dreadful and others, like Japonesque, are so good.

The Japonesque brand is one of the largest beauty accessory brands in the world (they created and hold the patent for the first ever Bobbi Brown lip palette) and was started in Japan by a model searching for the ultimate tools. Japonesque tweezers, however, are made by a third generation family business in Italy, now run by two sisters. Each tweezer takes two days to make, with one side being first enamelled and then baked for 12 hours before the other side gets the same treatment. Hand stamped from steel, there is a core collection of 14 different patterns with various limited editions along the way. They’re made from stainless steel and the tips are hand filed for absolute precision.

The Japonesque guarantee is such that the £15 tweezers will be reconditioned for free, and if they cannot be reconditioned (although quite what you’d have to do to wreck a set of these, I’m not sure), you’ll be sent a new pair for free.

Japonesque has been in the UK before, but is set for a big relaunch this year and you can already find various products at John Lewis, or check out www.japonesque.com.
