I never stop being amazed at how many times you can reinvent the apple (and checking back, I realise I say that every single time I write about this brand.. but)! The DKNY brand really is the master of reinvention because they take the same basic apple shape and turn it out differently every single time. DKNY ‘Crystallized’ is a more sparkling version of Be Delicious (green) and Fresh Blossom (pink).

There’s not a lot that I can tell you that’s different from other versions – it’s the same formula, tweaked each time so if you know you like that basic scent, chances are you will like the tweaks, too. The autumn version of Fresh Blossom last year had a twist of tangerine; this time it’s red fruits, rose water and raspberry. Last year’s autumn version of Be Delicious (with glittery lids and a sequinned box) had a burst of watermelon – this time the twist is Yuzu, violet and lily of the valley. Or maybe the latter were also in Sparkling Apples. It’s hard to keep track and what would be a great idea is a comparison chart so that fans of the brand can immediately see how it differs from its previous incarnation.

It would be a very helpful thing! I get the lily of the valley straight away in Be Delicious Crystallized and the fresh apple – it’s genuinely a pretty, quite light, fragrance that I could easily wear every day. I absolutely get the raspberry in Fresh Blossom Crystallized – it’s quite a candied scent but not overtly sugary and if you like to get a waft of sweet and fruit it’s definitely here but presented in a sophisticated way. You’re not going to smell like Tutti Fruittis.

I think this pair is the best reinvention for a while and if I had to choose I’d go for Be Delicious over Fresh Blossom, but they’re both elegant, pretty and totally wearable. The pair are launching into The Perfume Shop on 9th October for £39 each.
