Okay, so MAC is having a shaky time with bloggers right now, but I’m impressed with their new range, Tartan Tale. It’s really different in terms of looks and concept, and the fact that they’ve incorporated a ‘Tis Noble To Give Viva Glam Lip Bag into the range where every penny of the purchase price, £20, goes directly to the MAC Aids Fund is, of course, great. There is also a cheeky checked teddy bear, £12.50, and a set of Helping Kids Christmas Cards, £5, under the same terms. I love the Eye, Lip & Face Kits, the Brush Sets and the amazing tartan eye shades. These gorgeous innovations have the tartan pattern on top of the compact layed down through a patented flocking process with tiny individual nylon fibres pre-dyed and laid down in the specific patterns. The colour goes all the way though – so there’s no overspraying here – and it’s actually a cosmetic industry first. The whole lot launches in November and it’s all limited edition. Intriguingly, the correct title for the range is Tartan Tale (Chapter 1) implying there is more to come.
I can’t help thinking that Burberry beauty must be kicking themselves for not getting hold of this technology. Would have been perfect.

Very impressed with this collection already 🙂 I can’t wait to see and hear more about it. The patterned eye shadows – I don’t doubt that they will sell out fast. And I like how sneaky they are naming it “Chapter 1” 😉

So interesting–yes, I thought of Burberry too. Thank you for posting! I wonder why they do their promo photos with the palette facing flat–it makes it a bit difficult to see, yes?

This collection is one I’m excited about from MAC since the beginning of the year. Nothing else has made me want it ‘NOW NOW NOW!’ for a long time and I had pretty much given up hope for them until I saw pics of this collection coming through the blogosphere.

Didn’t know they were doing patterned shadows till now! And it goes all the way through too!! YAY!
I can’t wait to see it in person, really excited to see and swatch almost all of it.

  4. I’m really looking forward to this release. The plaid takes me back to the 90s…

Damn. In my mind I had already ruled this collection out based on the packaging. With the possible exception of one eyeshadow palette I was interested in seeing a closer look at… now I want it all.

  6. These are fab! Thanks for sharing!!!

So True, lol!! I try not to get swept up in the hype of MAC LE launches but I got sucked (suckered?) into Venemous Villains and now with this and the other collections coming out (Peacocky, Stylishly Yours) I don’t see it winding down anytime soon!

  8. Wow… I love the detailing on these products… and I LOVE makeup for a good cause as it means guilt-free shopping for me! : – )

    Cool shaddows.

  10. I have been wondering what kind of eyeshadow would MAC come out with for this collection. Because usually there are only palettes, and not eyeshadow singles. But now when I saw the eyeshadow singles….I WANT I WANT I WANT!!! And it’s good to know that the pattern last all through.

Oh goodness! I have never seen such ugly packaging for cosmetics and for that reason, I am out! I little desiger fatique here…

Thanks for the forewarning. I will try another brand for this season.

  12. I’m not sure I’ll be getting any of this collection (not a tartan fan) however, I am actually genuinely impressed that these are not oversprayed – well done MAC for figuring out how damn annoying that is!

the eyeshadows strike me as being more collectable than usable. i can’t imagine that it would be easy to guarantee even colour with that design.

i’ll still be first in the queue for them, mind.
